“Ideological siloing” means we stop interacting entirely with those who hold opposing views. Polls show that a majority of both Republicans and Democrats have “just a few” or no friends who are members of the other party.21 By contrast, just 14 percent of Republicans and 9 percent of Democrats have “a lot” of close friends from the opposing party.22 The results of not knowing people of opposing viewpoints and seeing them only through the lens of hostile media is predictable.
