To the Ladies... never settle for less than an Ezra "Ethic" Okafor.
To the young ladies... never love a Messiah more than you love yourself.
To The Fellas... ask yourselves... what would Ethic do?
I’m the king. I’m a lion.
“No favors amongst gentlemen,
forgiveness is for the strong.
You can’t heal and hate at the same time.”
love and hate were the same emotion just channeled in different ways.
Young women went into love with the purpose of proving how true theirs could be. They measured their commitment by how much they could endure for a man.
They would do anything asked and often even what hadn’t been asked to attempt to symbolize their allegiance.
“I am woman and woman is beautiful. We are expected to be beautiful, so I will be what people don’t expect. They don’t expect intelligence, they don’t expect grace. I am strong, and even when others have the ability to physically overpower me, mentally, I am stronger. I am a queen on a throne, and a place next to me must be earned. When I find my king, his power doesn’t erase my own. My crown is not a man’s to repossess. I was born in regality. I am kind, but naivety does not dwell within me. I am woman. I am the origin. Everything begins and ends with me. No man is worthy of my worth. I

Man was made to hunt, to find nourishment not only to feed the hunger in their bellies but the hunger in their souls.
his soul was starving.
He was unapologetic in the way he loved her.
Morgan Atkins had him on some other shit. On some faithful, do anything for her, sick-to-his-stomach type shit. On some fall-asleep-on-the-phone-so-I-can-hear-you breathe type shit.
not a living soul could say they had experienced what he now possessed.
Whenever he walked through her doors, she took the burdens from his shoulders, giving him a temporary escape and letting him know that there was at least one person who cared if he lived or died.
I know what I got, so if I’m not doing what I got to do to keep you locked down, let me know.
I don’t want to leave opportunity for the next nigga to take what’s mine.
Messiah was fighting his instincts, just to be with her.
thawing a frozen heart just to place it in her possession.
He said it was her first language, one that she shouldn’t abandon just because she had learned another.
God had healed worse souls than hers, it felt possible.
His stare was like the sun. It warmed her. She felt it.
It even tanned her like the sun, leaving her Ethic-kissed long after his gaze was gone.
“She’s happier than I’ve seen her in a long time. I could never thank you enough.
“Do you believe in the power of prayer?”
“So, you don’t believe in God?” she asked. “Can’t see him, can’t hear him. I trust the tangible.” “Can’t see love, can’t hear love…and you believe in that,” she said. “I’m looking at it right now,” he whispered.
“I’ma forever believe in that,” Ethic stated.
He rested his bowed head against her stomach and Alani closed her eyes. She trembled.
She wanted to give in to the thought that as long as she never met the murderer… the gangster… as long as he was always the gentleman with her, then she could turn a blind eye.
The parts that he showed the world mattered as much as the ones he reserved for her.
He was too damn good to do the bad things he did…too reminiscent of God’s image to work for the devil.
I lost you. Now, all I get to experience is the hate without ever knowing what the love felt like. I have resentments about that…with God…within me…none with you, though… never with you.”
“Then take me to a place where you feel comfortable talking about it, because I need to know,”
She was afraid of Ethic, not of the man she knew, but the one she didn’t.
Ethic didn’t feel the need to be overtly masculine because he felt no need to prove his manhood to anyone.
His reality was hard enough.
Someone who will put up with the things Loving me can bring And still be there to see us through Someone who will put up with the strange and complicated things Because I will do the same for her too
His presence even when silent was loud. He overwhelmed her. He was a king.
And a killer.
