If I were to pick one element above all else that makes the biggest difference it would be the first two minutes of the interview.
Right now, throw away the begging bowl, develop a confident swagger and start to understand the piece of rhetoric lots of companies trot out: “Our people are our most valuable asset”. Many companies say that sort of thing, I don’t know how many of them actually understand the implications… but right now I want you to understand that it is really true and that means in a job hunting scenario you hold the balance of power.
People are like icebergs. You can see what they do, the behaviour they show and the results that they get. But all of this is driven but things you can’t see,
Knowing and being able to articulate what you want from the role makes you a much stronger candidate.
Our CV or résumé is only going to be for two purposes. The first is to get an interview and the second is to layout the initial conditions so we can take covert control of that interview.
