False Step is a deep look inside a marrige and a family, that isn"t perfect, but whose life turns into a living hell after they catch the medias attentionand basically go vira!. The constant scrutiny exposes small cracks and secrets the rclsive wife and magnanimous husband keep from each other.
It is emotionally fraught told from a conflicted wifes POV. It may be too much emotion, angst and fretting for some readers as the insecure wife worries about everything. To me victoria felt authentic and the end would never have een so powerful without shch a complete revealing of who she was.
The ending is powerful but most of the book is more introspective, as we learn about the characters. Stone is an amazing writer who brings people to life in shch a way that you know them you understand them and they seem so natural and real.
This is the third book by this author that i've read and even though a read FALSE STEP in a 24 hour period, i rated it 4stars because i didnt like it quite as much as JANE DOE (which blew me away with how good it was and how deliisciously evil!) AND EVELYN, AFTER, WHICH I A!SO LOVED. They set extremey high bars.
I still think this was a. Excellent book. The family was judged extremely harshly in the court of public opinion-- far beyond their transgressions and their false steps deserved . It is a good mora!l reminder to us all about judging others when we dom't know the whole story. There's always more to people than what we see.
Now i'm going to look for the author's only book i haven't read yet. She"s something quite special..
