“We have to know that if we do hitchhike we are leaving ourselves vulnerable,” she said. “If we get really drunk and take a ride home with someone we don’t know, we are leaving ourselves vulnerable. But we are not responsible for the injury that happens to us from that assault. Had I picked up Bernice Courtemanche, she would have been fine. What happened to her was the sole responsibility of that person who assaulted her. ”
