In 2012, Panama unveiled its Friendly Nations Program, which currently allows citizens of fifty countries to become an instant permanent resident by tossing $5,000 into a Panamanian bank account and paying lip service to doing business or investing there. The residence permit requires only one or two days in the country each year to remain active.
