Experience has shown us – or re-shown us – that horses are not only a satisfactory and economical means of power, especially on such small places as ours, but are probably necessary to the most conservative use of steep land. Our farm, in fact, is surrounded by potentially excellent hillsides that were maintained in pasture until tractors replaced the teams.
