I have become convinced that confusing “critical thinking” with “judgement” is what stops so many from getting onto their own life path. The irony in all of this is that when we don’t think critically, we become terribly judgmental. We can choose one or the other. The zombified can’t think because they fear it and they’ll blame you for thinking, when the real problem comes from the inside of them. Sometimes the truth hurts.
The ancient Greeks exposed their young people to forms of cosmic theater for contemplative purposes.
They knew that when the imagination gets together with the intellect, the birth of thought occurs! This is the purpose of art, poetry, narrative and drama. No longer a common practice in education, this is what the myths and fairytales did for countless generations before us. The process of engaging in questions that are catalyzed by our imagination can stimulate us to think and to cross thresholds on the inside of ourselves that we didn’t know existed.
