Jim had drifted off to talk to friends and Jacquie joined the student cheering section down front, leaving Anne and June to chat as they watched the game from higher up in the stands. The gym was not that crowded – not many fans had made the long trip down from Caribou, so June and Anne could talk freely.
Beth smiled indulgently. “Oh, let’s see. You work in a masculine profession dominated by men. You carry a semi-automatic weapon and have demonstrated your prowess with your ‘baton.’ You are a jock. You have short hair, don’t wear makeup, never wear heels, skirts or dresses, just work boots, jeans and sweaters. Nobody has ever seen you with a man except in work situations. You’re strong and independent and don’t seem concerned about how you come across. Not the feminine archetype, I would suggest.
