Tobias certainly did not want a woman to inspire him to act with such reckless emotions, without regard for others.
Despite the fact that she roused his lust, she also roused his ire, and that, he well knew, was a most dangerous combination.
Every time she had gone after something she desired, she had been hurt. What price would she pay if she danced too close to the earl’s icy flames?
“Though Lord Blade may not like it, I am quite possessive and in that regard I certainly have no intention of adjusting my attitude or my expectations. I would have no compunction about grabbing your exquisite coiffeur in my hands and dragging you from what will be my home in a few days’ time, then dropping you on your fundament outside. I may be small, but I am quite ferocious.”
He leaned in even closer. “I assure you, you are growing on me.” “That makes me sound like a wart, very unflattering.” “Now that you mentioned it…”
His wife had needed him, and he had not probed deeply enough.
“I wanted to kill him,” he muttered fiercely. “I wanted to break all of his bones for touching you. I am the very man my father was.” “Tobias, no, you—” He dipped his head and slashed his mouth over hers in a fierce and unexpected kiss.
“What I feel for you is beyond affection. At the crest of each dawn I think of being inside of you. I write and you crowd my thoughts. I sleep and you are the last person I think of, and damn me if when I wake, you are not the first person I fucking look for. I think that borders on obsession wife, not mere affection.”
“I will not run with my tail tucked between my legs, nor will I mope and cry and suffer my heart to break more every day. I love your infuriating brother, more than I dreamed possible, but I will not allow such sentiments to…to…”
She nodded mutely, painfully aware he did not acknowledge the fact that she loved him or that more was needed for them to be happy together. It pained her to admit it, but she could not endure such a union.
Deep in her heart, she feared she would succumb and kiss him thoroughly, and then proceed to give him a tongue lashing on his stubbornness. She grinned at the thought of provoking him to such an extent. For good measure, she would probably dissolve into tears, too.
He loved her gently, passionately, and nothing else intruded in Livvie’s thoughts as she reveled in being wicked in her husband’s arms.
