Other researchers found that individuals who worked on a computer task and received flattering task-related feedback from the computer developed more favorable feelings toward the machine, even though they were told that the feedback had been preprogrammed and did not reflect their actual task performance at all. Nonetheless, they became prouder of their performances after receiving this hollow form of praise.
