Pope Benedict XVI states: “[T]he disciple whom Jesus loved…is once again named as the author of the Gospel in John 21:24.”29 To be sure, the combined use of “I” (first person singular) with “we” (first person plural) and “his testimony” (third person) can be a bit confusing.
