“That’s because he’s mentally disturbed,” spat Nick. Shaya’s brow slowly slid up as she stared at her mate. “Then I’ll bet you and he get along quite well.”
“Why?” “I owe him a favor.” “Very noble, but I have a feeling my phone battery will last longer than your attempt at tolerance.”
Totally straight-faced, Ally replied, “Sorry, I don’t take orders unless I’m naked.”
Rachelle’s voice dropped a level as she growled, “You need to seriously rethink defying me.” “And guys need to stop shoving their hands down their pants to play with their balls in public.”
“I’m a straight shooter, so I’ll tell you right now that I’m not convinced you didn’t try to kill your Beta female.” Ally shrugged. “That’s all right. I’m not convinced I care.”
“At least you have spine. But that won’t earn you any respect here. Not when you are what you are.” “You mean bored?”
“I’m just making my point that I don’t trust Seers.” Ally smiled gently. “Admitting your problem is the first step to recovery.”
It was Cain’s youngest uncle, Sam, who had taught Ally how to cook. And how to hotwire a car and escape zip ties.
By the time she was eleven, she knew how to drive, how to skin animals, how to pick a lock, and how to brew beer. She could also reel off the military alphabet and speak Russian, Spanish, Italian, German, and Mandarin. Surprisingly enough, most of it had come in handy at some point.
“Normally, I don’t give warnings. But you really don’t want to fight me, Jesse.” “Why is that?” “Because I will defeat you. I will enjoy it. And I will crush your pride, which has already taken a beating this morning.”
“Holy Mother of all that’s blue, how the fuck did she do that?” exclaimed Bracken.
“I’ll heal you.” He shook his head. “No, I deserved that. I was arrogant, and I taunted you. But thanks for the offer. You fought well.”
“Derren, let her help you,” encouraged Eli. “No,” he again ground out, looking close to blacking out. His eyes blazed into hers. “It’ll hurt you. It already hurts when I touch you.”
“She healed me.” “You sound mystified.” “After the way I acted, I wouldn’t have blamed her if she sat back and watched with glee while I writhed in agony.”
“But you didn’t pull away. You took my pain and added it to your own. Why?” She swallowed. “Because it was the right thing to do.” “I didn’t deserve your help.” “Oh, I know that.”
“Oh, cool it, Hudson. I’m not gonna give her shit. She saved my best friend’s life and healed my goddaughter. As far as I’m concerned, she walks on water.”
“I don’t need a nursemaid.” “Good. I’d just send her away anyway.”
“Who I speak to is my business. Should I grab a ladder so you can step out of it?”
“It’s not a good idea,” Ally whispered, her eyes still closed. Derren nipped her pulse. “No, it’s an amazing fucking idea.”
But think about what you’ll be risking. Cain’s been a good friend to you, in the only way a sociopath can be. Do you really want to fuck up that friendship? Do you really want to find yourself on the receiving end of his fury?”
“It was either bring her here or watch her attempt to sneak away again. If she’d gone out alone, she could have been hurt or taken.” “They’d have brought her back within the hour,” mumbled Jaime.
So, either he has the IQ of a Cheerio or some kind of death wish. We’re not yet sure.”
“Hey, Ally, do you know the difference between a hamburger and a blow job?” At her frown, he asked, “No? Wanna have lunch sometime?”
“You know,” he said to Ally conversationally, “one day I might just kill him.”
“Death by blue balls.” Bracken shook his head. “I never thought I’d go out this way.”
After all, getting involved in Roni’s “let’s annoy the creepy bitch” game might not be the wisest idea,
Roni jerked in her seat and then cradled her leg. “Motherfucker! Jaime’s right. Getting shot isn’t fun.”
Woman, don’t make me hit you with your own broom.
“Go home, Rachelle. I’m sick and tired of riding your crackbrained roller coaster.”
Marcus snorted. “Roni’s not harming her; she’s restraining her. My mate’s version of ‘harming’ goes something like hanging her opponent by their own intestines.”
Roni went nose to nose with Rachelle. “If you do, I’ll come for you. Whether Ally’s staying with our pack or not, I’ll come for you. I’m the last person you want tracking you down.”
“You’re always going to challenge me, aren’t you?” “I’m so thrilled we got that cleared up.”
“Ally got free and untied the others,” said Dan. “Then they just jumped right on out of the vehicle and made their way back. Of course, she was totally pissed and made us buy her a goldfish. Our Ally’s tough.”
“Ally, if you’re not alive, I’m going to kick your ass.” “I’m alive,” Ally assured her with a smile.
Taryn appeared in front of her, looking impressed. “I don’t know how the fuck you switch forms like that, but you gotta teach me.”
“If you were my homework, I’d do you on the table.”
