Her face softens. “I hope I live long enough to see you realize how beautiful of a person you really are.” “Sure, no pressure there,” I chuckle lightly.
She’s writing of endings while I’m tasked with weaving a tale for a new beginning.
“Not for me. With me. We’re going to be sisters, so doesn’t it make sense?” She pauses in the living room. “Oh, and soon we’re going to be neighbors too.” She bounces on her toes and claps. “Have you seen it yet?” “Seen what?”
“I know you’ll never believe me, but I think you saved my brother’s life.” Immediately, I begin to shake my head, because it’s the other way around. “Maybe someday you’ll see it,” she says quietly before slipping out the door.
“She’s going to love this, Lex. Really.” He chuckles as he reads the last page. “So, Lucy finally realizes all of the other bugs are her family even though none of them look like her.” “Yep.” He chuckles, wiping his eyes again. “Lucy sounds like someone I know.” I reach over and take his hand in mine. “She’s a lucky little bug.”

when JD lowers himself beside me. “Sometimes I wish I would have met you sooner,” he says quietly as we stare at the father-daughter duo who continue to tease each other. I laugh sadly. “Yeah, me too.” “But we have each other now.” Something in his voice makes me turn. Our eyes lock. Oh my god, it was him.
“I love you, Dad.” I’ve said it before in a joking way, but this time I really mean it. Nothing has ever felt so right. He kisses my forehead and squeezes me even tighter. “I love you, too.” There’s no place like home.
“She swears it’s the one the club’s been passing around.” “How could that be? Did you tell her where you got it?” “It has the same scratch on the back as the one the club had.” “Really? That’s weird.” “Yeah. Elizabeth had it last, and she lost it.” Ash’s brows pull together. “You think Daisy found it? Because that would be crazy it ended up back here.” “It would, wouldn’t it?” I stare at Daisy’s signature on the painting. “Have you noticed all of the daisies Elizabeth has planted at the junkyard?”
