APRIL 29 Day 120 Letting Others Invest “…I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.’ But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant!…You ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.”’ Matthew 25:25-28 The Savior calls attention to two kinds of servants, and alludes to a third: He discusses faithful and unfaithful servants and closes by suggesting that the unfaithful servant could have “invested My money with the banker.” Many Christians fit the description of this third option; they are willing to invest if someone will do it for them. For example, you ask a friend to come to a meeting and he does, but when the meeting is over, he does nothing more. You invite him to a Bible study and again he joins and does nothing more. He will become involved if you drag him with you, but he will take no initiative. The faithful steward takes initiative and assumes ownership. He doesn’t wait for others to tell him what to do. He prayerfully analyzes his options and by faith exploits those he feels best serve the cause of Christ. A self-starter, he doesn’t need the prodding and cajoling of others to motivate him.
