Was it my fault for being a pain in the ass? Probably. Will I ever be able to refrain from being one? Didn’t think I could.
“My problem is not with the color, oh old one,” Marcus drawled, “but with the taste.” “Don’t insult my cooking any longer, you manchild.” Marcus turned around, holding the small espresso cup in his large hand. Give it to me, you— “I’m older than you,” Marcus countered. “And yet, you’re calling me old, and I’ve seen you eat dino nuggets. More than once.”
“Yeah…We believed it was a spell at first, and we kept referring to it as one. I’m not so sure anymore.” He shrugged, turning back to the computer. “It did draw horns and a mustache on Carter’s file after he got mad he couldn’t find a particular book and insulted it. And then there’s that time Carter was ‘pushed’ from a ladder…”
“I know,” she nodded, determined. “But with your soul back, you’ll be able to bind it with all your mates. It will strengthen you and them, and it might also appease the Nephilim’s madness.” My heart stopped. She couldn’t know about my other mate. The one I left behind about ninety years ago and avoided as best I could. The one who would be killed if I saw him again. “What do you mean, all my mates?” I asked, playing clueless. She couldn’t know. He wasn’t here. I checked. “Arc and Carter, of course.”
