I study the commander, looking at him as though I’m seeing him for the first time. He’s no longer just my enemy, my captor, the itch I’ve been fighting not to scratch. He’s now the berth I’ll be moored to, the sun my instincts will forever orbit, the future I’m not sure I can ever have.
“Ever Tenebrae, may I have this dance?” Well, fuck.
Shit! The butterflies! I can’t let him get near me, or these drakes are going to have my head!
“I can handle your sharp edges, Claws. Now be still before you set off my prey drive and we give the audience a very different kind of show.”
“Cut me. Hurt me. Destroy me. I’ll happily bleed for you, Ever. Every drop is yours already.”
“For every question I don’t answer, you can have one weapon of your choosing,” he offers, and I almost stumble in shock. “Done,” I immediately agree, and he laughs at my overeager display. If it gets me weapons though, he can laugh at my expense all the way to the armory.
“Ever Tenebrae. Will you accept my bond and become my mate?”
his gaze. “I will accept your bond and become your mate. But you shouldn’t fall for me, Aeson,”
“Things would be easier for both of us if we just stayed enemies.”
“We were never truly enemies, Claws,”
“From now on, you will only come on my cock, my fingers, my hand, my mouth, and my tongue.
he leans over me until our noses are almost touching. “Your dragon feels the same way that you do…like you were made for me and me you. Like the metric of my happiness rests solely on yours. Like I could never be complete without you by my side.”
don’t think Aeson Noctis is my Bonded Mate. I think he might be my Soul Tied.
“Oh, so we’re back to Spare?” he asks with faux indignation. “What happened to Aeson, you feel so fucking good, yes, right there, fuck me like the god you are,”
“Fine,” I bite back. “But Aeson,” I call as he turns to leave, “you’re my mate not my master. Be sure you don’t get those two mixed up, or you’ll be nothing to me at all.”
There’s a disc attached to the last box in the first pile, and I press down on the button and a recording starts, zooming in on all the smiling faces of Aeson’s Wing. “Happy Naming Day, Frills!” everyone enthusiastically offers—well,
“This is everything on your list, and one extra special present we hope makes you think of all of us every time you look at them,” Chastain excitedly explains. “Happy Naming Day, from your favorite Wing,” he adds, batting his lashes coquettishly at the cam before he starts making kissy faces at it.
Ogdan steps up front and center. “We’re glad we found you, lass,” he declares warmly. “We know you’re more than capable of guarding your front, especially with your new arsenal, but know we’ll always be here to help guard your back. Happy Naming Day.”
Ever, My grandmother was right. Every dragon deserves to fill their life with treasures that they’ll cherish, revere, and protect. This flower was the most breathtaking thing I’d ever laid eyes on, until I saw you. It feels fitting that you should have it now. A great treasure for the greatest treasure of all. Yours, Aeson
“They’re no butter knives, but they’ll do,” I tease, and Chastain’s grin morphs into a beaming smile.
acting like they want to be beaten with their own severed arms.
I want to be a Syphon, not a shadow of one. I want to be me.”
“I thought we addressed this and reached a no cuddling solution?” I complain as he relaxes around me. “We’re not cuddling. I’m just holding you for a couple minutes.” I huff out a laugh. “How many minutes are we talking here?” “It’ll be over before you know it. Five minutes tops.” I snicker, but I don’t push him away.
