She was every single glorious, broken piece of bloodied perfection that I could have dared to imagine.
“If she wishes for someone’s death, she need only ask.”
“How about during the day and the evening you can hate me all you want, and we can burn one another with all the ire we can muster… But at night… Here… Where it’s only us, and the space between us is reduced to this blissful barrier of flesh that is the only thing that separates my soul from yours, let us seek solace in one another as we are meant to…”
As much as I wanted to relish in the satisfaction of ending them with fist and blade, I knew I didn’t have the time. Mareina didn’t have the time. I willed my magic forward to take hold of the blood in their veins. I increased the pressure in every vessel and organ in their bodies until blood wept from every orifice. It was the work of a moment for them to collapse dead.
“I will always come for you, Mareina. I will always be there to save you. Whether you wished it or not, I would crawl on hands and knees through the fires and chasms of every hell to save you.”
“You can try to run as far as your heart can take you, but no one will ever be able to fill that longing you have for me in your soul. Not even your pretty fae warrior.”
“Mareina… There is nothing you can do to drive me away. There is no event that could take place that would ever make me want to leave you. You could literally shift into some demon that crawled around on all fours, hissing, spitting, snarling, and incapable of forming intelligible sentences, and I’d just be like… ‘Well… I suppose a leash and a muzzle might be useful for when I have to take her out for walks.’”
