Tomorrow was my last shift of the week, and then I had two glorious days off. What better way to spend them than spread out under a man who knew where a clit was?
“All this time, you’ve been trying to reassure me that I’m safe with you,” she said, sliding the blunted side of the blade higher. “But did you ever stop to consider whether or not you were safe with me?”
“I won’t do it if you don’t promise to be a good boy,” she crooned. Praise kink: unlocked.
Terror slammed into me. A woman had one hand on my dick and the other on a knife. This could get so bad, so fast.
I’d stabbed him. Jesus take me now, I had stabbed a man while giving him head. There was no coming back from this.
I opened the refrigerator. Moths flew out of it. Okay, so moths didn’t actually fly out, but they might as well have. My fridge was barren except for wine, a small bottle of half-and-half for my coffee, and a to-go container from my favorite local deli.

Sometime while I’d slept, someone had broken into my house and put their leftovers in my fridge. Gee, I wonder who could have done such a dastardly thing?

You will never see me coming, I told him, hitting send before I noticed the double-entendre in the words. Welp. There go my plans for you tonight, he wrote back.
My evil plan was working. Step one: get Aly to drop her guard. Step two: fuck her on this couch. Oh, wait, no. I’d skipped a few steps somewhere.
What would I realistically do if I opened my bedroom door and found the Faceless Man waiting on the other side, shirtless and covered in fake blood like he’d stepped out of one of his videos? Probably say, “Smash,” and then pounce.
See, this was why you had to keep your eye on women. They were always up to no good, invading your privacy, pushing right past the boundaries you set for them, with no care for things like societal norms or laws. What next? She broke into my house?
What had she said the first time I watched her through her computer? That Fred only liked me because cats were sociopaths, and he recognized one of his own? I should have picked up on the subtext then: Fred liked two people, Aly and me, making us two peas in a pod.
The woman was down for kinky sex, knew how I liked my coffee, and was more than willing to aid in the murder of a rapist. What had I done to get so lucky?
“Fuck me,” I muttered. “Kind of a weird time to offer,” Aly said without missing a beat. “Can I take a raincheck until after we’ve disposed of the body and you get a chance to brush your teeth?”
“Aly, nothing you could say about your family would ever drive me away.” “Okay then. My uncle Nico is in the mob.” Josh turned toward his door. “Pull over. We’re breaking up.” He jiggled the handle like he was trying to open it. “Let me out.”
“You got a real creepy vibe going on right now, and I don’t know if I should be worried or turned on.” He glanced at his lap, hidden by the island overhang. “Never mind. My body figured it out.”
He let go of me with one hand and held it out in front of me. “This is the part where you take your earrings out, right?” he said. “I can hold them for you while you beat his ass.”
The likelihood of getting caught was akin to being killed by a gopher: low, but never zero.
The sound of a scuffle came over the line, followed by a loud groan and then silence. I was almost afraid to ask, but I forced the words out. “What just happened?” “Your girlfriend,” Junior said in between wheezes, “just kicked me in the junk and ran off into the night.”
I whipped around. No one was there. Yeah, this place was definitely haunted. What had Mom told me to do if I ever encountered a ghost? “I mean you no harm,” I whispered. “Who are you talking to?” Aly asked, making me jump.
Together, we took off into the night like the criminals we’d become.
I now had the answer to the question, “How fun is it to run through the woods at night during winter?” About as much fun as having Hannibal Lecter for a gynecologist.
“What the hell did you say to him?” she asked as we made our way toward my car. “I told him he had a nice arse.” Aly choked on nothing. “What?” I said. “He does.”
“I love you,” I told her, unable to keep it in any longer. “I know,” she said. “You do?” She nodded, her hair tickling my forehead. “Yeah, you’ve been saying it in your sleep for the past week.” “Oh.”
“I love you,” I said, punching my hips backward. Josh groaned, his fingers tightening in my hair. “I love you, too, but don’t say it again, or I’ll come.” I grinned. “I love you.”
“Same. And you should probably look at this cut. I think it might be serious.” He lifted his other arm and curled his fist inward like he was posing. There was a tiny scratch on the inside of his bicep. “See? Right here.” He flexed, making his muscles pop. “Do you see it?” He flexed again.
He leaned forward and waggled his brows. “Picture me holding a toddler in one arm and a baby in another.” Uh-oh. No, ovaries. Put down the warpaint. He leaned closer. “Shirtless.” Fuck. I was totally going to have this man’s giant babies.
