I’d rather be a sinner than a hypocrite.
My life had been far easier than most, but that didn’t make it the life I wanted.
“If anything happened to you, I’d never forgive myself, and Zahariev would also kill me, so there is that.”
“But what makes something sacred other than the human belief that it is important?”
You act like this has to mean something. Fucking brat. She meant everything.
“Promise me something,” he said, still watching me. “What?” “If you ever feel like you don’t want to do this anymore…tell me. Give me the chance to bring you back.”
Two years and all you thought about was who would succeed you, because despite being your own flesh and blood, I am still not worth as much as a man, even the one who hurt me.”
“I would go to war for you,” he said again. “I would fight endlessly to keep you if that’s what you wanted.”
Hold me tighter, Zahariev, she’d said. If I did, could I keep her from breaking?
“No. Even if I were, you’d go anyway, and I’d still follow.” He paused. His gaze was gentle, thoughtful as he studied my face. “I’d follow you anywhere.”
This entire time, I’d questioned Lilith’s self-control when I really should have been worried about mine. If she hadn’t been with me, I’d have killed every man in that fucking house.
They will call her a demon, but I watched her transform, and I will call her goddess.
