I sighed as I flopped my aching bones down on a pile of golden hay. It prickled my skin and poked through my clothes, but the hayloft was warm, dark, and reasonably soft. Seeing as I’d nearly been murdered a few hours back, I was pretty damn content. I rolled over to look at Pip in the dim light. “This isn’t too bad, is it, little buddy?” He nestled down beside me, making soft little grunts and squeaks as he vigorously dug about in the hay to form a sleeping nest.
“They’re slow to trust. Let me show you,” my stepmother said as she reached for the bracelets. I evaded her grasp. There were few animals I couldn’t win over.
I love her little retaliations. She's definitely not a doormat even to her stepmother. And her stepmother isn't even that cruel. She's just strict and she cares about the girls. I love how it's not following the exact same plot of Cindrella. It adds some believe-ability to it

I think she definitely has some connection with animals. Oooo i can't wait to figure out what it is. She's gonna discover she has power and its gonna be like no otherssss..
I left the commotion of the courtyard behind and strode through the entrance into the great hall, my thoughts clouded and furious. What the fuck was the silver-haired woman doing here?
Oh my gosh i love the explicit language here. Like it might be a fantasy book but it doesn't do those pretencious way of speaking. I lovee it
She tossed the token like she would have flicked a coin into a wishing well. I lurched forward and caught it before it bounced off the stone step. The metal was warm to the touch, and a small rune had been etched into the surface of one side—a series of concentric circles. I didn’t recognize the symbol, but something about it felt familiar.
Gurl why was everything familiar to you? First the stallion and the connection you had with him and now this rune is familiar to you? I'm telling you you're probably the long lost child of some prominent family and your mother was definitely someone if your stepmother thinks you're gonna get recognized because of your hair
