“I thought I spoke pretty clearly. You’ve spent the entire night berating your own staff, and quite honestly, I’m sick of it. So let me say this nice and slow for you. Do.
Not. Talk. To. Her. That. Way.”
“I was thinking that you haven’t even seen me swing a club yet. No matter how much I enjoy being a passenger princess while you expertly hit the ball, I’m actually terrified to do it myself.”
The problem is, I’m still deciding if just because I can’t kiss her means I won’t.
“Lucy Rae, there are so many things about you that I’m interested in. But right now, there are two I can’t stop thinking about.” “And what are those?”
“I’m dying to know what you taste like,” he answers, his voice hoarse. “And even more, I want to know if you’re going to keep giving me excuses or if you’re going to give in to what you want and let me kiss you.”
“Then as your friend, I’m telling you I know an obsessed man when I see one. And that man right there…” She cocks her head in his direction,
trying to be discreet, but it still makes me blush because it’s a little obvious. “That man is obsessed with you. He wants to kiss you again. I’d bet all my money on it.” I risk a glance over my shoulder, finding Cal staring at the two of us. My cheeks heat at the look on his face. Ryker talks animatedly next to him, but he doesn’t seem to pay any attention to his friend. He’s focused on me and only me. “There’s no way he’s obsessed with me,” I offer, quickly turning around so he can’t read my lips. “Tell me what you’re thinking about.”
“I was just thinking about how lucky I feel right now,”
“Baby, I’m the lucky one,”
I think I’m falling for Callahan Hastings.
“Only the best for you, baby, since you’re the best gift I’ve ever been given.”
“You deserve all the special things, Lucy Rae,”
If she could just spend a minute in my head, she’d realize just how special she is and how much she deserves more than what she’s used to.
She’s the first person to ever capture my attention—and my heart.
She has all the power, and I’ve never been a fan of giving people power over me. But for her, I’ll always make an exception.
“The only perfect one between us is you, Lucy baby. And I ask myself almost every second of every day how I got so lucky to have someone as perfect as you even give me the time of day.”
“You’ve ruined me, Lucy baby. I need you to know that.”
I think I’ll spend the rest of my life comparing every kiss—every man—to the one holding me right now.
It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell her how much I care about her. To tell her that despite her warnings, I’ve fallen in love with her. She’s it for me.
My tongue tells her all the things I can’t say out loud. That I fell for her. That I want to be with her. That I can’t imagine my life without her in it.
“There’s nothing I want more than to wake up next to you tomorrow morning.”
