The ability to not only embrace failure but to use it as a launching pad for future success is a skill.
Pain can be an incredibly useful tool to learn and grow as a creative.
Creating is the salve to failure.
we should get excited when we run into a problem, because it’s probably a road map to getting better at something.
before I release work into the world, I read over it—whether it’s an Instagram post or a novel—and I ask myself: Have I been vulnerable? Have I been generous? I like to ask myself, Am I proud of this work? And if the answer is yes, then I ground myself in that fact. I give myself the validation before anyone else can give me validation.
It is your job to transform failure into curiosity, and curiosity into more art. Failure will be your catalyst for even more brilliant and prolific creation.
No matter what stage of your journey you’re at, things will usually feel like they’re moving too slowly. This is the curse of the artist.
Momentum is happening. Life is moving. Things will shift. Creativity will change your life. Every single time you make art, you propel your life forward. A future version of you is looking back at the present version of you, reading this book, and they are so grateful for your commitment to your art, because you changed everything.
