I may wield Oblivion, but it seemed Dianna controlled it. It responded readily when she was in danger, and it had since the first time she was taken from me. Now, it retreated, easing like a compliant beast beneath her touch.
Chaos gifted us what those lower than us deemed as life, but what was life other than this servitude we were bound to?
“I won’t damn this world because I’m scared and don’t think for a moment that I am not terrified. He is, and so are you, but it’s what we do when fear threatens to turn us numb that tells us who we are. It tells me exactly who you are that every time things get hard, you give up or lie or run away.”
“It’s better to die by what you think is right than to live under a lie.”
“I’ve faked better orgasms than the performance you all put on. You’re all lackluster at best.”
“Pain,” she whispered. “The one constant in this world. It’s my favorite, you know? Let me know exactly where to hurt to make you bend.”
Your fear is a tool, Miska, but only if you are able to control it. Otherwise, fear will slow you down and make you sloppy.
You love aggressively and angrily sometimes, but you still love. Don’t let jealousy twist it into something ugly.”
“Protect your family, Kaden, because in this world, they are your actual strength.”
“You are very intelligent. I assume my son likes that about you the most.” “Actually, it’s my mouth, but I won’t scar you with that.”
She was the spark that lit my entire world, dragging me from the darkness. I had always known her as light, and here was the confirmation.
When it comes to you, I’ll always choose you, no matter the consequences. The world can burn, and the realms can fall to destruction. If there is ever a choice between the two, I need you to know that neither the crown nor the throne means anything to me. None of it would matter without you. It’s always you. You are my priority. I may be a god, but you are the altar at which I worship.”
decided a long time ago I would rip the world apart for you, alive or dead. You only need to be threatened for me to start feeling murderous. So, in short, you shouldn’t have made me love you.”
“It’s Dianna, actually.” I smiled back. “Or, please don’t burn me alive, depending on who you ask.”
“And he is not yours to command. He answers to one queen, and you are not it.”
The rightful queen had returned to these realms and, with her reign, they would either kneel or they would burn. Gods above and below, I fucking loved that woman.
If I have to put you above the world, your crown, and what they demand of us, then so fucking be it. I will let it all burn, Samkiel, and I mean that. You may be their champion, but I am your sword and shield as much as you are mine.”
She faced all conflicts at the front, leading the way, and in doing so, she inspired confidence in those around her. Even Miska held her head higher since meeting Dianna. She was destined to rule. All the scriptures said so, but no one could have predicted that she would be beloved by those who served beneath her. Gods above and below knew that I’d fall in line, too. Beyond powerful, beyond strong, beyond beautiful, she could make empires rise or fall, and I’d be her humble sword, no matter what my queen commanded.
“I know I am. I am right because you think you feel the same way about her as I do. But you don’t love her. Not as I do. You don’t do what you have done to her, take what you have, and say it’s love. That’s not love.”
"Not used to being touched, bitch?"
My arm pressed harder into him. “Kaden is a monster, but he never lied about it.” Kaden made a noise of agreement. “He never pretended to be friends with us, love us, laugh with us, or fight with us. He didn’t lie to our faces daily as he worked and connived with her. He never betrayed us!”
“Kneel and pledge your loyalty to Dianna, the one true queen, or die for the false queen here and now.” One by one, the assassins stepped from the shadows and knelt. Then Cameron, Kaden, and Isaiah followed. Vincent looked around the room before holding Camilla’s gaze, as if he had pledged his sword to her and needed her blessing. Camilla tipped her head in a slight nod, and they both sank to their knees.
anything Samkiel or I wouldn’t do for our family, and I think Nismera severely underestimates that.” “She does,” he said. “She does not feel like you or him. Her emotions are tied only to her need for conquest. When she finishes here and grows bored, she will attempt to claim places far from here.”
It didn’t matter if he was a god or a ghost. I didn’t care. I’d fight him the second I got out of these chains.
“She was not made with an ounce of love. She was made with power, conceived to be a weapon.”
“You think you’re above everyone else, but here you are, only able to face me with my powers bound. You are weak and afraid, nothing more than a blustering bully.”
I pledged my loyalty and love to you long before we ever met, and loving you was the greatest gift of my existence. There is nothing I would change, and I don’t want you to be anything other than what you are. I know what you will be, Dianna, and it is glorious. Please know, no matter what happens, I would do it all again.”
