If he was the sun, by the old gods, she was the moon. Powerful, dark, and overbearing at times. She never left him, nor he her, as if they danced around each other for eternity.
Perhaps it was truly a funny thing not to realize how broken or damaged you were until someone came along and picked up every single fractured piece and showed you how just being you was enough.
She’d finally spoken the words I so desperately craved, and it felt as if my soul had ignited when they fell from her lips. My legs had stilled, my body refusing to move, and I’d wanted nothing more than to stay. She’d given up the very fabric of her being for me. I would never be worthy of her, of that kind of love, but I would be a godsdamn liar if I said I wouldn’t try to be.
I had a throne to reclaim, a crown to take back, and a war to win, but my greatest fear was that I could not protect the one I couldn’t live without.
I could face anything, knowing he stood at my back. He was my shield, my strength, and soon he would be my husband.
I opened the door, and Reggie paused, beaming with pride as he looked at me. “What?” He shook his head. “My apologies. I have seen this outcome in so many variations, but this one is my favorite. You look…” He paused, meeting my gaze, and I could have sworn the fate had tears in his eyes. “Like you have found your home.”
