I will not lose him a second time. I can’t.”
My name is not Xio. It’s Dianna. Those people took someone from me who means very, very much, and now I need your help to get him back, okay?”
“You know, you don’t even know who he is.” She bit at her bottom lip. “Samkiel would have helped you, saved you and your people. He would have bent over backward to offer you peace. Unlike the old gods, he is kind and caring.” Her eyes darkened to a brutal crimson as she raised her hand. “Everything I am not.”
I suppose he was handsome, but that beauty faded once you knew him, knew what he had done and was capable of. It was a shame, though, a shame to be so beautiful and ugly at the same time.
“But, Sami baby, there is nothing weak about you. I think we are both used to doing everything alone, even taking care of ourselves. So help feels strange. You know I’ll be here when you’re healthy and strong and also when you’re sick and need me to pick up the slack, all right?”
“Your burdens are my burdens, and we take care of each other, okay?”
Everything in this realm and the next was bearable now because I had her.
They are your great love. Is she your great love?” I nodded, staring at the top of the tent. “The greatest.”
“I can assure you, I have only had one, and it’s the one you smell on me.”
“You mate with the same beast that has destroyed your world and worlds before?” “She is not a beast.”
“Dianna is not evil.” “Your love for a creature of death will be your demise.”
“She is your beloved?”
“I’ve never loved or been so consumed by another, nor will I ever again.”
“You are just as reckless as the great love you speak of,”
had been a week and a half since they had taken him from me, and the fear of what that damned poison was doing to him was making me crazy.
“I know. It’s just that I love him, Reggie. Like real stupid, mushy love, and now I am afraid I won’t get to tell him.”
“Oh, so you expect him to take another as queen? You are his, correct? Is it not what you both scream relentlessly in the dead of the night?”
My main concern was finding and healing him.
“You smell of the King of Rashearim.”
what does the King of Rashearim mean to you?” “Everything.”
I’d lost him because I couldn’t tell him, because I was too afraid to tell him, and I was about to lose him once more.
“He is everything to me.”
“The King of Rashearim’s heart seems to beat for you as yours does for him. I hear it even now.”
my Samkiel
My Akrai,
Be careful. Yours always, Sami
“Oh, I would level the universe for him, but he told me to be good, so I’ll stick to saving him instead.”
“You found me.”
“I’ll always find you.”
My body damn near screamed for him, burned for him. I’d missed him so much.
“Use your words, akrai.” “I missed you, Sami. Every bit of me missed you.”
You missed this. Didn’t you, akrai?”
so mine.
“Because I cannot cover your mouth that well on top. We’ve learned that the hard way. And with how I’ve missed you these last few weeks, I am sure you’ll be screaming.”
“I’ve missed you.”
I will give you everything.”
If anyone showed up and tried to take him from me, I would rip them to shreds. Gods, I could destroy the whole camp and sleep like a baby as long as I had him.
“Be a good boy and try to be quiet.”
“Sit on it.”
“No, Sami. I am in charge.”
“Spoil me akrai, give me what I want,”
“I always count when you’re away from me.”
I didn’t want him to know how it felt with him gone, how empty I felt as if a part of me was missing.
“Dianna. I am safe.”
“You even try to look, and I’ll rip your throat back open.”
“Always the hero.”
What if what we had was fantastic but not love for her?
“If you look at her like that again, speak to her in that same tone, or threaten her, I do not care about any partnership or alliance we may form. I will kill you,”
“I know what and who she is. You do not.”
“If you are a threat to her, you are a threat to me. I will not repeat myself.”
