In Jeremiah, God urges the Jewish exiles in Babylon to “seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare” (Jer. 29:7). If Jews were supposed to seek the welfare of a nation that had conquered them, destroyed their people, and burned down Jerusalem, how much more should we Christian exiles steward our own nations today?
