“I am sure he will be delighted to hear that his son was sleeping with his Host and the Poisoner. It really should earn you some points with him,”
“He hid her in plain sight, right next to your fair sister.”
“Phoebe is off-limits. Father will have your head if you meddle with his favorite.”
I blinked away the blur of my vision, staring at Silas. How could you let this happen? “I’m sorry.” Silas cupped my face, a pitiful expression plaguing his features. Then, his needlelike teeth pierced the other shoulder, granting me some relief from Luka’s bite.
Nothing was mine anymore. Not my body, not my words.
“Alina,” he started. “I hate you, Silas. I want you to know that for whatever comes next.”
“I know you do.” He leaned in. “Luka was going to do as he pleased, whether I was there or not.”
“I need more time. Please just trust me,” he whispered, resting his head against mine.
“Will you let Luka play with me again? Or feed from me while you stare at your hands and wonder what to do? Will you allow him to have me next? I’m done waiting.”
“It was interesting to find that you poisoned your father and his assistant. Were you jealous he finally had a son?” Luka teased. “I thought your journal entry from that day was quite interesting too. ‘Thirty-five hours, twenty-nine minutes, and fifteen seconds.’ I couldn’t believe you tracked how long it took him to expire! How morbid.”
