“From the bottom of my heart, fuck you. I hate you.”
“With no training and your Seal still intact, you managed to reach past your Protectorate magic and use your true power to turn back a primordial being,” the King said, his voice hoarse and uneven, his usual composure forsaken. His eyes were wild, broad chest rising with sharp, quick breaths. “You leave me no choice. You never do.”
“I am yours,” the King murmured, each syllable dripping with gravity and something not unlike devotion, “and I will happily burn in the fires of your rage. You need only command me.”
within shadowed libraries smelling of citrus and vanilla dust.
“I do not wish to kill your people,”
“But I have done many things I did not wish to,”

“I have loved many strange and terrible things in my time,”
“And even I have never understood how you managed to love him.”
Something sharp, woodsy, and camphor-like met her nose—eucalyptus,
“Outlive me.

“Instead of your sorrow,” the King continued, his gaze boring into hers, “no matter how righteous it may be, I want something else from you. I want your rage.”
“I have known many others in the years I have walked this earth,” he told her, his gaze a dark inferno, “and yet I have tasted nothing as sweet as the sorrow you bring me, nothing as sacred as your faithless love.”
“Please do not say you love me.”
“If you do,” the King said, his breath ghosting across her skin, “I think you will break me.”
“Outlive me,”
Outlive me. I love you too much.”
