I ignored him and tore another chunk off my pizza, sliding my hand down to hold onto his arm for emotional support. His hand found mine in the crook of his elbow and gave me a reassuring squeeze. The simple gesture relaxed my rigid body,
“Yeah, he’s giving off real Damon Salvatore vibes.”
“Oh, I promise there’s something underneath this towel.”

the Kool-Aid man—
Leaning back against the door frame, the familiar figure pulled a lollipop from his mouth and smirked. “Hey, Sunshine.”
I definitely love you.”
“We both know I let you pin me to that counter.”
“I know, dumbass. But what I do say is none of your business.”
“Guess who?” Kaleb’s exaggerated girl voice sent me into a fit of giggles.

“You said Nerf wars were only for family and friends.”
“I did.” I lifted my chin as I repeated, “Do you want to join?”
“You are pretty intimidating,”
bit my lip, “You’re telling me that if I don't tell him he’s pretty, he’ll what— burn me alive?”
The voice that answered was rough, That's not quite what I imagine when I think about you crawling on top of me, Sunshine.
