Whether or not she has feelings for someone else shouldn’t matter, yet the thought of my wife pining over someone else aggravates me like nothing else has in quite some time.
“They’re the ones that keep our family running. They keep us together,” he says, clear reverence in his voice. “Each and every one of those women truly have become sisters to me, and I’m not sure I could see our lives without them anymore. They saved me, and they don’t even know it.”
“I suggest you end whatever it is you started before I find out who he is.” His gaze roams over my face, lingering on my lips for a moment, before returning to my eyes. “You’re mine, Raya Lewis. You just don’t know it yet.”
“I’ll agree to that, so long as we’re clear on one thing: you’re mine as much as I’m yours, and I do not share. You can hide our marriage as much as you want, but it doesn’t make it any less real.”
“I fully respect your choices and your boundaries, Lexington. You made it abundantly clear that you have no interest in love or relationships, but someday, that’s exactly what I want for myself. I understand that it won’t be with you, and I won’t push for things you won’t give. All I ask is that you let me go eventually, so I can find someone who’ll love me like you won’t.”
“Let me be clear, Raya. You’re going to be my wife, and I’m going to spoil you rotten. If I want to send my wife something as simple as flowers in her favorite color, I’m going to do so — regardless of who’s watching. I’m going to treat you so incredibly well, you won’t lack for anything, nor will you yearn for anything.”
Before I met Raya, I had every intention of drawing boundaries and sticking to them. Somehow, I just can’t manage it with her.
“It would make me so happy if you’d give us a real chance, Lex. I’m not asking you to change, you know? I’ll take you as you are.”
It’s seen me through some rough periods, and I didn’t think I’d ever want to share it with someone. Yet somehow, you’ve made me want to turn it into something that could be ours.
She has no idea that she’s done what no one else has been able to do in years. She’s made me want to live again.
“I love you, Lexington Windsor. You don’t have to try so hard, you know? You’re perfect for me, just as you are.”
“Sometimes love isn’t loud and obvious, Raya. Sometimes it’s in the little things, hidden behind layers and layers of exterior protection. Love isn’t always communicated verbally, but that doesn’t make it any less real.”
Xavier Kingston is madly in love with my sister, and I’m not sure he even realizes it.
I know marriage isn’t ever going to be perfect, but it wasn’t perfection I was after. I just wanted to marry a man that would try to give me his all every single day, and Lex truly does that. I can tell it isn’t easy for him, but he still does
If there’s one thing he’s taught me, it’s that loving someone with all you have won’t necessarily make them love you back. The love you give isn’t a precursor of the love you receive.”
“I love you, Raya. More than anything — more than flying, more than breathing. I love you with every fiber of my being, with all I am, all I’ll ever be.”
“It’ll bring you back to me…whenever you want, no matter where I might be. In the event I’m not in the country, it’ll take you back to this exact location, allowing you to bypass any security measures. The button itself is keyed to your thumb, so it wouldn’t work for anyone but you. I want you to know that you’ll always have every right to me. I’ll always be yours. I’ll always be waiting.”
