You cannot look at a movement like that and ask, “What was the right way to respond? What was the most helpful approach?” No, you look at a movement like that and let it be a reminder that your job is to take your imagination, your resources, your position in life, and act as only you can. We really need to stop trying to have our action be the most socially acceptable approach, and we need to start understanding that we are a part of a bigger movement. Your role is not going to look the same as the next person’s in your newsfeed, and if it does, I would suggest you dig deeper.
