“A vow forged from convenience is the first kind to be broken when it becomes inconvenient.”
“My sweet affliction, I regret to inform you I don’t beg.”
“Believe me, Elowen,” he begins, drawing my attention away from the crowd, “my intentions are never honorable.”
“Muse of my nightmares, you have returned.” I sigh while straightening my dagger. “Are you here to escort me?”
I spin on my heels to find his darkened gaze roaming over me and his jaw is clenched so tight it must be painful.
“It now reads ‘Cayden Veles—Commander of Vareveth and Defender of the Bane of His Existence.’ ” I loop my hand through his extended arm and try to ignore the fresh scent of pine and spice that surrounds him. “So you have officially given me the title?” “It was only ever yours to take.”
“Any home is a castle with a queen inside.” I shrug, seeming unbothered.
“Everyone in the kingdom fears me, and yet you never miss an opportunity to insult me. I find it enthralling.” His eyes scan my face. “I become more intrigued every second I spend in your presence.”
“Your thought process is disturbing.”
“You’re coming shopping?” I quirk a brow at Cayden. “I’m your guard.” I clutch my chest and widen my eyes. “Are the fabrics going to bite me?” “If they do, I promise to rip them from your body. Can’t have you getting hurt on my watch.”
“Spend more if you want me to break a sweat, angel.”
“I don’t want to be viewed as charity.” “Does he strike you as a charitable man?” She huffs a laugh. “He wouldn’t have paid if he didn’t want to.”
“You don’t need to surprise me with knives, angel. I’ll bleed for you if you ask nicely.”
My thoughts are my own, but Cayden is looking at me as if they’re made of air and he longs to fill his aching lungs.
“I didn’t realize you paid such close attention to me.” “What makes you think I’ve ever looked away?”
“No need to get tongue-tied because you almost kissed me.” “It was a lapse of judgment on my part.” He smirks when I glare at him. “I despise you still.” “Do you?” He snaps his fingers. “Tell me, love, do you often kiss people you loathe?”
“Condemn whoever you wish.” He shrugs, placing a hand on my back to guide me toward the front door. “It’ll provide me with some entertainment when I shoot them down.”
“Careful, angel. You give a man a taste of salvation, and he might keep coming back for more.”
“If you are to be my damnation, it’s an end I’ll happily meet.”
told you to say my name,” he commands again, sliding his hands down to firmly grip my ass and press himself into me harder.
“Call me names again and I’ll bend you over in front of this entire room.”
“You’re being so good for me, Elowen.”
“Please let me touch you,” he groans against my neck. “I need to touch you, El. Let me take care of you.”
“I need your words, beautiful. Tell me if this is okay.” “Please don’t stop,” I whimper. “Thank the fucking gods.”
“Be a good girl and ride my fingers.”
“Honestly, Sas, I’ve never seen Cayden quite so…” Ryder waves his hand in front of his face, trying to pluck the perfect word from thin air. “Dedicated to a mission.”
I cross my arms over my chest. “I’d like to stab you.” His grin widens. “I love it when you sweet-talk me.”
“Again with the knives, El. You know I adore them, but now really isn’t a good time.”
that doesn’t change the fact that you are the sweetest curse bestowed upon me.”
“I find it hard to imagine a reality where you could be unwanted.”
“Sit on my face.” “Y-your face?” I stutter. “Will you be able to breathe?” “Breathing isn’t my top priority at the moment.” He
“Gods!” I cry out as he reaches between my thighs and rubs me. “The gods aren’t in the bedroom. I am. You scream my name or nothing. No god or man will ever fuck you like I can.”
“I’ll find a way to gift you the stars if you wish for them. You can have anything you want, love.”
I slide my fingers through his hair to pull him closer, and sigh into his mouth. “Thin walls!” Ryder shouts from the room beside us.
“Part of you wants us to get caught, don’t you?”
“My hands are not nearly bloody enough, and will soon be covered in ash,”
In my eyes, you’re already dead.”
“You would start a war for one woman?” Eagor shouts incredulously. “You are the Commander of Vareveth, your loyalties reside with the crown!” “You should be terrified of what I’ll do for her,”
I’m yours. All of me, every darkened part. Until the moon crashes into the sea and all the stars blink out of existence.”
“The reign of the demon king and dragon queen.”
“Your soul is forged in flames and blessed by the gods. You’re the only person who can share a link with those dragons. The fire of the gods resides in you.”
