In a further word to the prophets Paul said. “For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.” (verse 31). Here Paul states again the purpose of prophecy in the church, which he mentioned earlier in this chapter—that prophecy is for “edification, and exhortation, and comfort” (verse 3). Then he tells them, “And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets” (verse 32).
