In 2022, the Office for Intellectual Freedom received a record 1,269 book challenges, the highest number of demands to ban books reported to ALA since the association began compiling data about censorship in libraries. This nearly doubles the 729 book challenges reported to the Office for Intellectual Freedom in 2021.
