“No one will harm you if they know you are mine.”
She’d captivated me since the first night.
You, I thought, I get you.
Her breath hitched, and I knew she couldn’t deny the physical attraction between us any more than I could. It was intertwined in our DNA, buried in our biology. This need we had for each other overruled everything else.
That I could win her over. That I could make her see that life with me wouldn’t be so bad.
The fates had chosen her for me, after all.
Pressing a kiss to her lips, I let it say all the things I couldn’t.
Me. He wanted me.
Selfishly, I wanted her to feel welcome.
“You’re always going to be safe with me.”
He made me want to be.
Everything except the sparks between us.
“I’ll have no choice but to pull that dress up and take you right here.”
“Fuck, you smell so good.”
Goddess, he was beautiful.
“You just have to learn to tap into it.” He squeezed my wrist before letting go and stepping back. “I’ll teach you how.”
Please. I don’t have anyone to protect you yet, Moonbeam.
There, I had her all to myself. Here, everyone would want a piece of her.
“I don’t know how to do this,” I admitted. “How to be everything that everyone needs me to be.”
“You don’t have to hide from me, Moonbeam.” I’d already seen it all, anyway.
She was already doing it just by being here. Smoothing out my rough edges. Tempering my mood. Grounding me.
“But don’t for one second think that I regret meeting you, Luna. Even if I had to do it all over again, exactly the same… I would.”
“You’re not a distraction,” I promised. You’re my salvation.
Careful, Moonbeam, Zain thought into my mind. You’re going to make me jealous.
Because despite how much my heart wanted him to be, he wasn’t the human I’d been falling for.
“The Prince wanted you to wear it. He picked it out, especially for you.”
“Everything in here was chosen for you.”
“We’ve been waiting for you a long time, Luna.”
But I desperately wanted to know more about him. Ever since I’d met him in the bar, I’d had the oddest sensation that I knew him somehow. Like my soul called to his.
Our connection to our father, our powers, bound us together.
I’m not some piece of property he needed to deliver into your lap, Zain.
“Yes. Willow’s my mate.” He chuckled. “Funny that you sent me to find your queen, and it led to me finding my witch as well.”
What were the odds of it, anyway? That the fates would choose two sisters for two brothers. Even ones as wicked as ourselves.
Because he loved Willow. Though that was something my father would never understand—he’d loved no one but himself.
It’s my first time showing you off to my people. His eyes flared with a predatory, possessive gleam. I want them to know that you’re mine.
It was like he was claiming me as his equal.
“That he was mine. That I was his.”
“She smells like you now,” my fiancé mused to his brother. Willow’s cheeks flamed as Damien nuzzled his nose against her neck. “I had to keep the other demons away from my mate somehow.”
“Because you’re my light in the dark. You shine so bright, Luna. I never thought… No, could have never even imagined you. How you would illuminate my entire world.”
Her scent hit me as she moved closer, and fuck, if it didn’t do things to me.
I couldn’t ignore the call in my blood that wanted to have her. Claim her. Taste her skin.
“A powerful witch was foretold to be my queen.”
“You have to know that. I’ve always wanted you,” I admitted. “Regardless of who you were to me, from the moment I saw you sitting there, all my plans went out the window.” “And now?” I rested our foreheads together. “I want you still. In any way you’ll have me. I want you, Luna. Your body, mind, and heart. Just as I always have.”
Pushing his knees apart so I could slide in between them, I whispered, “I need you. I don’t know how to do this. Not without you. I wasn’t born into this world. I’m not a regal-born princess. I’m just… me. And I need you to help me through it.” He brushed a thumb over my cheekbone. “I need you, too.”
“I’ve missed you.”
“I missed you,”
“I missed you too,”
“I thought maybe you’d changed your mind, that you didn’t want me.” “Fuck.” He practically growled. “No. That’s not it at all.”
Because I wanted him. Wanted him to let loose, to take me hard, to give me everything I needed.
