“They’ve been having an affair.” I sobbed. “I’ll get the shotgun,” one of my uncles said with a chuckle. “We’ll have roast cheater for Christmas dinner.”
“Not so difficult,” he said, his voice rumbling through my chest. “You can manhandle me too.” “I don’t want to touch your man handle,” I blurted out. He bit back a laugh.
I’d seen guys implode their whole lives trapped in a toxic relationship, and all relationships eventually became toxic, no matter how well they started off.
“My bad. Didn’t mean to cockblock you, Hudson,” Granny Murray called. “I’m going to kick this ho’s ass, then we’re going to make Christmas cookies.”
“What do you even do?” “I solve problems,” he said carefully. “I’m a problem?” I spat. He closed his eyes. “No. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you, Gracie. Please understand that. I don’t want to live without you. We can be happy together.”
“Fuck you and your entire shitty family. Not you, you’re actually cool, Granny Murray,” he said to her. “Right on.” Granny Murray gave him a thumbs-up.
“I want someone to love me,” I said sadly. “I want someone to look at me and think ‘that’s my person.’ That’s what I’ve been waiting for my entire life.”
“I’m not a billionaire. I can’t offer you private planes, fancy trips, or a glamourous life, but I can offer you stability, partnership, someone who will always be there for you. I can offer you love, warmth, and undying support.”
