“Now, my darling Rising Queen, go claim your throne.”
Pride surged through me. Gods, she’s magnificent.
I latched onto her love, her goodness, her kindness. She was my light.
My head dropped back in a sharp bark of laughter. “You couldn’t kill me if you tried.”
“She’s my eternal mate,” the prince snarled. “She was to marry nobody but me.”
The land vibrated around me, robbing me of breath and hope as the tormented cry of a destroyed son burned through the realm.
She’d been my pillar. My strength. She was not only my heart and my beating soul, but she’d been my resolve in the initial aftermath.
“Gods, I will never get enough of you.”
“All hail the new king and queen of the Solis continent. King Norivun and Queen Ilara. Let a new era of reign begin!”
And as the moon shone down on us, and Ilara gazed up at me with tears in her eyes, I knew that no matter what might come for us, in the end we would always have each other and our family. And that . . . that would always be enough.
