“Why are you here?” “I like it when you’re bossy. Gives me the tingles.”
Trying her best not to disturb him, she scooted again, hoping to slip out unnoticed. He mumbled something that sounded like “I love cows,” and she pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh.
Layala grinned even wider. “You have famous scones?” “Oh, yes.” He grabbed a bowl out of the cupboard and then started by pulling the strings on the flour sack. “For some reason, and I can’t imagine why,” she drawled, “you don’t strike me as a baker.”
“I know your secret,” Layala blurted out. His brows raised. “I’m full of them, but now I’m curious.” “You pretend to hate everyone, to be evil and wicked, but that’s not the whole truth.”
“I told you once I’d kill who I needed to keep you alive, and I told you I’d do things that would break your heart.”
She did love him. Once the tormentor of her soul and now the possessor of it.
“You’re the most wonderful being there’s ever been, goddess of night.”
She couldn’t help but smile. “Be careful. Your heart is showing.
