The other passenger was a civilian, or at least she wasn’t in uniform. But she was very pretty, with long auburn hair and a lithe build that showed curves in just the right places and reminded me a bit of my ex-wife. She had caught me looking her way a couple of times on the first day in transit, letting my imagination run a little free. Her sour return look quickly put an end to my fledgling fantasies. Since then, I had made it a point not to look at her; every time I did, even by accident, she met my gaze with a hard stare that told me she wouldn’t want my attention even if I weren’t the biggest pariah in the Promethean Navy right now.

I sat, studiously trying not to see or be seen by either the engineer or the redhead while the transport neared Gerson Station.

I mean, I suppose that it shouldn’t have surprised me that a woman can tell when a man is undressing her with his eyes.
