He repeated her name slowly, like each syllable was a delicacy, and he was savoring each taste. The vampire ground her teeth at the sound. Her name had no right sounding so good in his mouth.
“I bet you have a very sharp bite,” the water fae said, a hint of humor in his voice.
This time, it was his turn to laugh. The sound was as deep as his voice, and it washed over Brynleigh like the first drops of rain after a long summer’s day.
“Oh, Brynleigh. I could be very nice.”
The vampire pulled on a part of his heart that no one else had ever touched.
She’d probably bite someone who touched her without permission. And fuck if he didn’t like that thought.
When she didn’t respond, he said, “Sweetheart?” Safe. That was the first thing she felt when he spoke.
“You needed me, so I came,” he said as if it was that simple. As if she knew exactly who he was, and they had something deep between them. “I’ll always come for you, sweetheart.”
She was the other half that would complete him. His soul recognized hers.
Love took work on both sides, and he intended to prove to the vampire that he would be the best possible partner for her.
“It doesn’t matter what we’re talking about because hearing your voice is like listening to my favorite music. I could do it all day long. Like an enchantress, you enthralled me with your voice.”
“Would you have preferred a novel? A poem? A song?” Ryker wasn’t much of a writer, but for her, he’d try.
Rather, I am quickly finding that I am desperate for your company. For you. I thought I proved that yesterday.”
He was a starving man, and every touch she allowed gave him life.
Right after this date, he would find Jacques and Horatio, the two male vampires in the Choosing, and ask them what he could do to make Brynleigh’s life more comfortable with him.
“They don’t haunt my dreams the way you do.” He only wanted her.
“You are the moon, shining your brilliant light into my life,” Ryker murmured, his voice deepening. “I lived in darkness before I met you and didn’t even know it.
Except… Ryker had given her the sun. The one thing she missed most since her Making. How was she supposed to ignore that?
“No matter what she says in there, I picked you. I Chose you. I will continue to do so until the end of time.”
