Blame is attributed to some combination of carbon emissions, single-use plastics, the European Union, English nationalism, eco-fascism, the volume of fossil fuel required to keep the internet turned on, and anyone who still buys cheap clothes from high street shops.

Certainly, she thought it was old-fashioned to need love as much as she did, but the world was hard.

He’d been happy before, but only became aware of it after the happiness was already gone. Finally, his happiness is vivid and big. He can’t help but notice it.

All of a sudden, her life is different, and his is the same, which is to say, his life is small, while hers is big. She’s having a baby. No matter how much queer theory he reads, he can’t help but think that anything he ever does, feels, or says will be trivial by comparison.
