From my experience, I’ve found that the best way to “find yourself” is to find people who have less than you and help them—not to study Plato or backpack through Europe or drop acid. Still, I never bought into Ahmad’s dismissal of metaphysical inquiry as preparation for secretarial work. Accordingly, I was a bit of a brat about it.
