The Volksempfaenger, by contrast, was completely uncompetitive on world markets with only tiny numbers finding buyers abroad. It is entirely conceivable, therefore, that in a Germany freed from the corset of Schacht’s exchange controls and open to the full benefits of international trade, the diffusion of radios might have been even more rapid. Nevertheless, the association of the Volksempfaenger with the radio boom made it the model for subsequent Volk products.
