Jesus isn’t calling us to be greater than He is. He’s calling us to be greater with Him through His Spirit within us.
Baseline living is not okay. Not for a believer in Jesus.
The fact is, we are so much better than we’ve become, because God is so much greater than we’re allowing Him to be through us.
See, it’s one thing to talk about doing great things for God. But how do you stick a pin in that part of the map and live there?
And it’s important to embrace the joy of the journey, because the destination is a mirage. That’s the thing about God’s leading in our lives. It’s not static. It’s not automatic. But it’s imminent. And it has the potential to change everything.
You’ll be inspired to dream bigger than you ever have. But you’ll also be challenged to start smaller, through simple steps of radical obedience.
Surprisingly, I find over and over again that my greatest enemy of the greater life God has for me is … me.
Routine is a vital and biblical component of our relationship with God.
Regardless of who you are and what you do, succumbing to mediocrity will sabotage your spiritual vitality.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there… even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (139:7–8, 10)
It shouldn’t freak you out to realize that God’s eyes are on you. Because He doesn’t see you through eyes of disapproval or disappointment. His presence is not a sign of condemnation. It’s actually an invitation. God is present with you, through His Holy Spirit, because He intends to uproot you from the tyranny of the familiar, shatter the monotonous life you’ve had, and take you on an adventure.
Your greater life doesn’t begin with building your dream house. It begins with burning down your old house. We have to start with an act of arson.
Before you can go forward into the life God has for you, you have to offer Him every part of the life you have.
That’s why the simple, uncomplicated word go is not the Father’s plan to disorient you but His attempt to develop you.
According to Bonnke, Peter didn’t actually walk on the water. He went walking on the word.
He’s more interested in your full obedience than your full understanding.
Some people never get greater because they’re not willing to leave good behind.
We are sentimental people. We like to cling to souvenirs from the places we’ve been and the things we’ve done. But when God comes to yank you away from the trappings of your lesser loser life, it is no time for sentimentality.
The cost of following Jesus is great. The cost of not following Him is even greater.
Faith isn’t a state of mind—it’s a course of action. Faith is work.
miracles aren’t magic tricks. They are the divine results of small steps of faith-filled preparation.
The kings wanted a miracle. They would get their miracle. But first they got a work order: This is no time for the power of positive thinking. Tie a bandanna around your head and pick up a shovel.
And it’s going to take sacrifice for you to get ready for your greater life. But can you really call it a sacrifice? After all, God is only asking you to make room for a larger-than-life blessing He wants to send your way.
