“You cannot solve a problem you refuse to look at,”
“My heart desires you too, Luther Corbois.” There was one perfect, beautiful moment of stillness as my words sank into him.
“Faith isn’t always about prayer. Sometimes it’s about sacrifice.”
I didn’t just envision a future with him. I wanted it.
“I could look at you forever, and it wouldn’t be nearly long enough.”
“Desire?” He gave a dark, throaty laugh. “Desire is a pathetic word for what I feel for you. I require you. I am sustained by you. You are the flame that fuels my fire. Don’t you dare question that—not for a second.”
His jaw tightened. “You know I have faith in you. You, above all else. You are everything.”
“The heart doesn’t care who it should love. Only who makes it sing.”
He loved me. He loved me. How could I ever have questioned it? It was as sure as the sunset, as steady as the dawn. Even now, even hurt, even dying, the strength of his heart was a force to behold. He believed in me, right down to his marrow, in a way I’d never believed in myself. He was my rock. My cove. My sword and my shield. My guiding light and my calming dark. My Prince. My love. He was my everything. And he was dying.
“Stop looking at me like that,” I hissed. “I am not doing this without you. It’s us, or it’s nothing.”
“Show me your worst, my darling, and I’ll show you how far my love can go.”
“Your daughter is everything to me, Auralie,” Luther said quietly. “All that I am, it belongs to her.”
