message 1: by Justine (new)

Justine Stewart The Named by Marianne Curley. I don't know why this book got so many praises from critics. It's so unoriginal and the pace is waaay too fast. Maybe I dislike it because it's for younger readers, but still. I could write a better book than this.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Brian D. Palmer couldn't write his way out of a paper bag, AND he's a dishonest historian.

Read Descent into Discourse in a grad course on historiography. The entire class voted it as "would most like to burn in a trash can" - it was that annoying. (It was not quite thick enough to win "use as a doorstop.")

message 3: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moby-Dick or, The Whale

Must be the most mundane book ever written. Have always been an avid reader of just about any genre of book, but this one just stuck in my craw. Could not get through it.

message 4: by Louisa (new)

Louisa Island of the Blue Dolphins
This has got to be the worst book ever written, so bad that I was so ready to destroy it! I had to read for my english teacher in fourth grade.

message 5: by Debjani (new)

Debjani Alchemist - AWFUL!

message 6: by Shazzer (new)

Shazzer David Brinn's "The Postman". One of the only books in my entire life that I couldn't stomach to finish.

message 7: by Daria (new)

Daria What the fricken heck is Eragon doing on this list? That book is 100% original genius!!!!!!

message 8: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Why are there so many great books on this list? The Great Gatsby? Push? The Catcher in the Rye? Ware and Peace???? I guess there are just some very stupid people on Good Reads. I had no idea.

message 9: by Nicole (new)

Nicole I have to agree with Matthew. A lot of these are great and classic books so I have no idea why they're on this list There are worse ones out there than these people.

message 10: by Basma (new)

Basma Kaid haha twilight

message 11: by Danna (new)

Danna The Scarlet Letter ? Really ? I thought it was a really good book, a classic and all. Yet I do tend to believe to those lists, so I would read TSL, but I will judge for myself whatever it is the 88th out of 100 worst books ever, or not.
However, I do know that twilight, as much as it popular and even considered, according to a different list (and a worse one, if I may add) - one of the worst books ever, because it has no plot, it is really bad, even as fantasy it is well easy to understand the writer didn't put many efforts writing this book, and a prove is the worst writing I have ever read. So stupid! The characters are the worst, the girl is weak and idiot, and the boy whatever his name is, is just a freak, nothing more. All of those girls reading it passionatly know exactly what kind of sh*t they read, they just don't feel like admitting it, because it would ruin other people's opinions about them.H
However, beside Twilight and all, I am glad I don't know many of the books, because it means I have a really good taste in books.
Although I do believe that every person around should judge the list and books for himself, according to what he read and liked, because as I have mentioned here before, this is a very complicated list and do not like the act that people crown a book as the worst books ever without actually reading it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Different voters. These are open lists, and anyone can vote on them.

message 13: by Sammi (new)

Sammi The Hobbit???? ;-; But... but I love The Hobbit. Somewhere, out there, a fair elf has died for the sadness brought upon it by this list.
Such sadness.

message 14: by Kelley (new)

Kelley Although I adore The Hobbit and the Harry Potter series, I can see why they may not be to all tastes. The Great Gatsby and Pride and Prejudice and A Tale of Two Cities are probably here thanks to people who didn't like being forced to read them in literature classes. Any book, no matter how great, is going to be hated by someone. No work of art is ever universally love.

But I have to scratch my head at how high Charlotte's Web appears on this list. It's so inoffensive! Granted, not everyone would love it, but I'm hard pressed to think of anything about it that would inspire outright hate.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Some religious conservatives have problems with any book with talking animals, is the only thing I can think of.

message 16: by Victoria (new)

Victoria The Book Thief???? How is this book in this list??? It's awesome! I mean, I know that this list is for fun, but still...that irks me.

Catcher in the Rye...I can see why people wouldn't like the book, as I read it. I liked it, despite the slight lack of a plot. But, what really mattered was the symbolism and the theme of the fear of change and growing up.

message 17: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth A book is not badly written simply because a character has an abortion or does drugs. Grow up.

message 18: by Christina (new)

Christina Carroll How is The Hobbit on this list? Seriously?

message 19: by Naomi (new)

Naomi Matthew wrote: "Why are there so many great books on this list? The Great Gatsby? Push? The Catcher in the Rye? Ware and Peace???? I guess there are just some very stupid people on Good Reads. I had no idea."

And Stardust for heavens sake. That book is wonderful

message 20: by Naomi (new)

Naomi And really, Siddhartha?

message 21: by Carpe (new)

Carpe Diem This list is personal opinion, for god's sake. Respect other people's opinion -.-

message 22: by Loveliest Evaris (new)

Loveliest Evaris How could people hate The Handmaid's Tale, or The Giving Tree? What exactly makes them bad? I loved them, especially the former.

message 23: by Seyma.Bir (last edited Jul 06, 2016 12:57PM) (new)

Seyma.Bir -Vampire Diaries??!!! It's better than it's tv show!! Come on how can u ignore the Salvatore brothers??!
-She's Come Undone was one of my first books and it has a really nice story. Wally Lamb wrote the book from a mouth of a girl, such an amazing thing!
-The person/people who made this list is totally a Justin Bieber hater, I swear. I think you should be respectful to people. Maybe he is not an author but it's just an autobiography and maybe he wanted to introduce himself to people better. He wrote a book but it doesn't mean he became an official author.
-The Selection??!
-How can Dan Brown's almost ALL BOOKS are in this list??!!!
-The Kite Runner was really good one even i hate the main character.
-I'm a respectful person but this list has so much hate i think..

Please remember that this list is made for people's opinions... if you get sensitive to other's liking different books than you, why on earth did you even visit this?

message 25: by Laura (last edited Jul 06, 2016 07:24PM) (new)

Laura Daria wrote: "What the fricken heck is Eragon doing on this list? That book is 100% original genius!!!!!!"

Original? I think not.

message 26: by The Dude (new)

The Dude The only reason great books show up on lists like this and shit books show up on the best books list is simply because of Goodreads userbase, middle aged women with dried up vaginas reading shit like Fabio and Twilight thinking they're hip with the kids.
Just look at the most recent activity lists on listopia, they're full of crappy 'Romance' novels with m/m, sports fantasies and the like.
Anus

message 27: by Alberta (new)

Alberta ..."with dried up vaginas reading"... , etc.
How would you know?!

I'm always surprised at how many people on the internet write as if they know what they're talking about - but they don't. They make generalized statements and talk about something they can't possibly know whether it's true or not.
All they accomplish is; coming across as someone ignorant/not very intelligent. If they only knew; I think they'd keep their comments to themselves. ;)

message 28: by Alberta (new)

Alberta If people think the Twilight books are the worst, I don't think they've read too many "romance" novels. So many of them have guys who are royal jerks through a lot (if not most) of the book. Edward was only hurtful to Bella when he left her, in the second book. Other guys in romance novels do a lot worse.

I don't think half of the books in the romance genre should even be called love stories. Often, there's just a small amount of romance at the end of the novel.

message 29: by Ari (new)

Ari Fry Matthew wrote: "Why are there so many great books on this list? The Great Gatsby? Push? The Catcher in the Rye? Ware and Peace???? I guess there are just some very stupid people on Good Reads. I had no idea."

Many of the classics on this list are probably from people who resent having to read them in school.
