Angie How do I add a list to "My Lists"?

message 4: by Kasey (new)

Kasey Emma DonoghueHood

Amazing book, should be on this list too :)

I am surprised as I didn't pick up that some of these characters were gay! DUH me. I saw the movie first in Fried Green Tomatoes and didn't realize they were gay until I read the book. I am glad I saw the movie first but still like the story very much. BarBing the abusive ex is very satisfying to think on.

Patrick Neylan Holden Caulfield notices a couple of "flits" in a bar. I don't think that's enough to qualify 'Catcher In The Rye' as LGBT.

I think the teacher is coming on to him aswell, but I agree.

Baxter Trautman Great list. I think I'm going to work my way down it one delicious book at a time. Thanks for taking the time to make it.

message 9: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I never really though the teacher was coming on to him, more that Holden is a narcissistic little shit who thinks the world revolves around him. Not sure why this book is on this list.

message 10: by Perry (new)

Perry I hope some people who read and love King of Angels will add it to this list. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

message 11: by Peter (new)

Peter Lynch Best book on this list IMO: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Patrick, ella, I read this in high school and didn't get these references at all. I must revisit this one.

message 13: by Greg (new)

Greg To all, I'm sort of on the fence about labeling any book of literary quality as a specific "type" of book. "War and Peace", for example, was for me about duality in all aspects of life. Sedaris' "Naked" is a comedy (and one of the funniest books I've ever read.) "The Front Runner" was truly groundbreaking, ripped my heart to shreds, but still I'm hesitant to label it as a "gay" book. In truth, it's a coming of age, coming of self book. For the sake of a good discussion, is "The Picture of Dorian Gray" on this list simply because the author was gay?

message 14: by Greg (new)

Greg Imagine, everyone, the truth: there are people who will turn there backs on "Naked" for all the wrong reasons. It's laugh out loud funny, start to finish, and the opening chapter is the most uplifting, hysterical comedy piece I've ever (through tears of laughter) read. Yet, pigeon-holed as a "gay" novel, some people will set it aside. I don't like fantasy, personally, but I'm currently reading Rushdie's "Midnight Children" and although it's absolutely the most fantastical and magical book I've ever read, it can't be classified as neither "fantasy" or "magic".

message 15: by Greg (new)

Greg PS: I am perfectly fine with anyone choosing what books they want to read. I am not being critical about anyone's selection of reading material.

Jane How is "Moby Dick" a LGBTQIA-Book?

message 17: by Jane (new)
