Addy Omari and the People by Stephen Whitfield was removed because the time period of the novels is set way to far back ("Ancient"). Two, it isn't contemporary. Contemporary fiction definition:

Contemporary/Realistic: Realistic fiction creates imaginary characters and situations that depict our world and society. It focuses on themes of growing up and confronting personal and social problems. This genre portrays characters coming to understand themselves and others. The book isn't literary or a novel (see the tags). I've updated the description in order to avoid situation like this in the future.

Addy Tied to a Boss by John L. Rose was removed because the subject matter was hoodlit/urbanlit/streetlit or erotica. Nothing wrong with that, this just isn't the list for those books.

message 3: by Addy (new)

Addy Tales of the Astonishing Black Spark by Charlie J. Eskew and Judges: When The Light Lay Still by Charles J. Eskew have been removed because they are not literary. Only literary books may be on this list.

message 4: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Hello fellow readers! I am looking for the title of an amazing book I read a few years back (actually probably more than a few - between 2011 and 2019). No matter what I type into searches I cannot find it, and really want to recommend to others as it was thought provoking and well written. The plot follows an African American lawyer in present-day times whose success in his field catches the attention of a group of men that are part of a secret society. These men include those in the upper echelon of society, who, for one weekend a month, travel to a remote location that has a plantation with white slaves where they take part in turning the tables on history. I don't want to give the plot away, but this book resonated with me so much. I remember at the time the author was an emerging voice in african american literature. Just cannot for the life of me remember his name or that of the book. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, please let me know - highly recommend. Thank you!
