Bill Fairclough Fabulous - I think I made it to the bottom of the list which is an amazing achievement as I haven't even worked out how to put the front cover image on the book yet!Beyond Enkription: The Burlington Files: 1

Inak why do the votes disappear when voting the next book?

Stephen Gillespie Is this a book in which people might be interested?

Now available on Amazon Kindle. https://www.amazon.com/author/stephen...

The themes of this novel question the validity of spiritualism with an extra-terrestrial encounter in which atheism and humanism are indicators of advanced civilisation. If visiting extra-terrestrials revealed their presence what difference would it make? On the edge of extinction, the dying race of visitors face a dilemma. Do they make a gift of their UFO star ship to the peoples of the world or steer it into the interstellar depths where it will become their tomb? The novel is also a homage to such SF First Contact movies as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, “2010” and “The Abyss”.

The novel has three strands of chapters which story arc through the book. The first strand follows protagonist Collette Bonnington who is a US astronomer hired by the Pentagon to head investigations into a sudden increase in extra-terrestrial activity on Earth. Her investigations lead her all over the globe and climax at the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem where the extra-terrestrials reveal their presence in the form of a grand aerial display set against the backdrop of the eerie northern lights.
The second story arc follows Holly Jane Foster, a young English school girl, who is puzzled by a series of "prank" texts on her mobile phone. When she is rescued by passing alien craft, on New Year's Eve, from an attempted rape, Holly realises that the texts have been coming from off-world and feels the psychic ticking of a dreadful secret clock.
Threaded through the stories of Collette and Holly is a series of stand-alone chapters which detail the activity of the extra-terrestrials. In these episodes, an orbital telescope is disabled and made fall to Earth, a US mercenary is abducted in Africa, a Chilean cargo ship is buzzed in the Atlantic (some cargo is removed and the ship's cat abducted), a convoy of fleeing refugees is saved from being gunned down in an ambush staged by some Chinese Red Army soldiers and the rioting inmates in a US prison facility have their memories wiped.
